We are representing a leading, private equity-backed food and beverage manufacturer based on Long Island. With a proud legacy and a strong growth trajectory, the company is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function, drive operational improvements, and support continued expansion.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee all accounting operations, lead a team of six direct reports, and work closely with cross-functional business leaders across manufacturing, sales, and warehousing. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for a high-energy, detail-oriented professional with strong cost accounting, inventory management, and financial operations expertise in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including general ledger, cost accounting, inventory accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of six accounting professionals.
Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Implement and maintain effective internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and regulatory requirements.
Manage and optimize cost accounting processes, inventory control, and pricing strategies.
Partner with heads of manufacturing, sales, and warehousing to drive financial insights and operational efficiencies.
Support M&A and transaction activities as needed (prior M&A experience a plus but not required).
Lead automation initiatives and process improvements to drive efficiency and scalability within the accounting function.
Oversee ERP (NetSuite) accounting operations, with an eye toward enhancing system functionality and reporting capabilities.
Ensure tax compliance, audit preparedness, and coordination with external auditors.
Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA highly preferred.
10+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller (or equivalent) role.
Must have prior experience managing teams of 2+ direct reports (preferably larger teams).
Experience in manufacturing, CPG, or food and beverage industries required; food manufacturing experience highly preferred.
Strong cost accounting, inventory management, and operational finance experience is essential.
Private equity-backed company experience highly preferred but not required.
Public/private experience is a plus.
Proficiency in NetSuite ERP and strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS compliance standards.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
Proven success in change management, automation initiatives, and process optimization.
Comfortable working cross-functionally and communicating with leadership across the organization, including heads of manufacturing, warehousing, and sales.
