Senior Payroll Manager
Hybrid | Flushing, Queens, NY (3 days per week onsite)
Salary: $125,000 -$135,000
About the Role
A growing, multi-site organization is seeking a Senior Payroll Manager to lead high-volume, multi-state payroll operations across both field-based and corporate employee populations. This is a highly visible role with responsibility for payroll accuracy, compliance, process improvement, and team leadership in a fast-paced, people-first environment.
You’ll oversee complex payroll operations, partner cross-functionally with HR, Accounting, Compliance, and Benefits, and help scale systems and processes as the organization continues to grow.
What You’ll Do
Payroll Leadership & Operations
Lead end-to-end payroll processing for a large employee population, including weekly and semi-monthly cycles
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Payroll professionals
Ensure accuracy across hours, rates, deductions, PTO, retro pay, bonuses, and differential pay
Maintain strong internal controls, payroll calendars, and approval workflows
Compliance, Taxes & Reporting
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and New York payroll regulations
Oversee payroll tax setup, filings, reconciliations, unemployment, and year-end reporting (W-2, 1095-C, etc.)
Stay current on changing wage laws, overtime rules, tax updates, and regulatory guidance
Review and resolve payroll amendments, corrections, and agency notices
Process Improvement & Systems
Drive payroll process improvements and support system upgrades and integrations (e.g., ADP, Paychex, timekeeping platforms)
Maintain payroll SOPs and documentation
Partner with Accounting on payroll accruals, GL coding, audits, and month-end close
Build and maintain payroll metrics, KPIs, and reporting dashboards
Cross-Functional Partnership
Collaborate closely with HR, Benefits, Compliance, and Operations on onboarding/offboarding, benefits, leaves, and audits
Partner with Finance and FP&A to support budgeting, forecasting, and workforce planning
Act as a trusted payroll subject-matter expert across the organization
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting, Finance, Business preferred)
5–7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including high-volume payroll environments
3+ years of people management experience
Strong knowledge of multi-entity, multi-state payroll and New York–specific wage and overtime regulations
Hands-on experience with enterprise payroll systems (ADP, Paychex, or similar)
Advanced Excel skills and exceptional attention to detail
Ability to operate at both a strategic and hands-on level
