A global entertainment and music company spanning recorded music, label services, publishing, artist and athlete management, and brand partnerships. The finance team supports a fast moving, multi entity business with complex royalty and revenue structures.

Position summary

This is a newly created role built around controls and audit work, sitting at the intersection of finance, legal, and risk. You will own testing and documentation for internal audit initiatives, manage legal spend review, and lead recovery of eligible legal expenses through insurance claims. The seat reports directly to the VP of Finance and is visible to the CFO from day one, with a clear path to broaden into commercial finance work as you prove out.

 

What you will do

Internal Audit and Controls

  • Lead testing of controls, transaction sampling, and documentation of findings
  • Help build and improve policies around legal spend, vendor management, and expense recovery
  • Support external audit requests tied to legal accruals, contingencies, and insurance receivables

Legal Bill Review

  • Review and validate outside counsel invoices for compliance with billing guidelines and approved budgets
  • Catch billing errors, duplicate charges, and non-compliant line items, and negotiate adjustments with law firms
  • Track legal spend by matter and entity, and prepare monthly and quarterly reporting for the VP of Finance

Insurance Recovery

  • Serve as the primary finance point of contact with insurance carriers, brokers, and third party administrators
  • Prepare and track insurance claims and proofs of loss
  • Reconcile recoveries against submitted amounts and ensure they are properly recorded in the general ledger

Contract Review Support

  • Review commercial contracts for financial terms including payment obligations, indemnification, and audit rights
  • Flag financial risk and non-standard terms to finance and legal leadership

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3 to 4 years in public accounting audit or internal audit, ideally with SOX or controls testing exposure
  • Strong accrual, receivables, and general ledger fundamentals
  • Advanced Excel, comfortable building trackers and reconciliations from scratch
  • Genuine persistence, this role requires following through on recoveries over long timelines
  • Strong written communication for corresponding with law firms, carriers, and brokers
  • CPA or CIA a plus. Legal invoice or insurance claims experience is a plus, not a requirement, you will be trained on this piece

Comp and logistics

  • Base salary $110,000 to $130,000, plus discretionary bonus
  • Reports to VP, Finance
  • Full time, five days a week in office in New York
