Our client, a growing Long Island–based company, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Reporting Accountant to join their Finance team. The ideal candidate will come from a public accounting background and bring a strong technical accounting foundation, excellent analytical abilities, and the drive to support a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the preparation and posting of journal entries as part of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Reconcile loss-related general ledger accounts and prepare detailed supporting schedules.
  • Assist with internal and external audit processes related to loss accounting, including preparing backup documentation and participating in walkthroughs.
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial reports in accordance with US GAAP; familiarity with statutory accounting principles is a plus.
  • Perform data analysis and reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance and operations teams to ensure consistency and completeness of accounting data.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or MBA preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in public accounting or corporate accounting; experience within the insurance industry is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP; exposure to statutory accounting principles preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, and close processes.
  • Proven ability to work accurately with large data sets and perform reconciliations with precision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and solid working knowledge of other Microsoft Suite applications.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems is preferred.
