About the Company
A growing, privately held real estate development firm headquartered in New York City. The firm specializes in value-add acquisitions, repositioning, and ground-up development across multifamily, mixed-use, and retail assets
The Opportunity
This is a newly created, first in-house accounting hire. The firm is bringing its accounting function in-house and this person will own it end to end, both property-level and corporate accounting, working directly with senior leadership.
What You'll Do
Accounting & Finance
- Own the full monthly close process including GL, P&L, balance sheet, and bank reconciliations across all entities
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and cash flow reports for projects and the corporate entity
- Process and disburse payments across all entities including AP, wires, ACH, and checks
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts including CIP, retainage, reserves, and accrued expenses
- Prepare year-end financials and supporting schedules for external tax accountants; assist with 1099s and RPIEs
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Review and maintain books in QuickBooks and/or Yardi
Construction & Development
- Compile, prepare, submit, and track monthly construction loan draw packages including invoices, AIA applications, lien waivers, contracts, and supporting documentation
- Coordinate with lenders, inspectors, and construction managers throughout the draw process
- Track construction costs against approved project budgets and prepare budget-to-actual variance analyses
- Prepare and submit quarterly lender compliance reporting including financial statements, covenant calculations, and certifications
- Prepare cost summaries, forecasts, and final cost documentation at project completion
- Coordinate reserve withdrawals per partnership and loan agreements
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years in public accounting or 3+ years in corporate accounting
- Experience in real estate development, construction, or property management preferred
- Hands-on experience with monthly close, balance sheet management, and financial reporting
- Construction loan draw experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency in QuickBooks; Yardi experience a plus
- Strong GAAP knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including lender and external accountant correspondence
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and build processes from scratch
- Must be able to commute to Midtown Manhattan 5 days per week
Compensation & Details
- Base salary: $100,000 to $110,000
- Location: Midtown Manhattan, fully in-person
