Our client is a growing construction firm based in Queens, NY, known for delivering high-quality projects across the region. With a strong pipeline of work and continued expansion, they are looking to add a Project Accountant to support financial operations across multiple active projects.

Position Overview
The Project Accountant will play a critical role in managing the financial health of construction projects from inception through completion. This individual will partner closely with project managers and leadership to ensure accurate job cost tracking, timely billing, and effective financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage job cost accounting across multiple projects, ensuring accuracy and proper cost allocation
  • Prepare and process monthly billings (AIA, progress billing, T&M), including lien waivers and supporting documentation
  • Monitor project budgets vs. actuals and provide variance analysis to project teams
  • Track and analyze project cash flow, forecasting inflows and outflows
  • Maintain and reconcile project cost reports, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead
  • Assist with revenue recognition in accordance with percentage-of-completion or other applicable methods
  • Review and approve vendor invoices, subcontractor pay applications, and expense reports
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure financial alignment and support decision-making
  • Support month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations related to projects
  • Maintain accurate records within accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar)
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, internal controls, and company policies
  • Assist with audit requests and provide documentation as needed

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of project accounting experience within the construction industry
  • Experience with job cost tracking, project billing, and cash flow analysis required
  • Exposure to general contractor environments strongly preferred
  • Background that includes a mix of public and private sector projects is a plus
  • Strong proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
  • Familiarity with construction accounting systems (Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, etc.) preferred
  • Demonstrated work stability/continuity in prior roles
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with non-finance stakeholders
