We're partnering exclusively with a large, well-established enterprise to find an experienced Leave Manager to lead their leave of absence and accommodation programs. Our client is a respected, multi-state operation with a genuine commitment to getting the employee experience right — and they need someone who can own this space strategically, not just administratively.
This is a leadership role with real scope. You'll oversee a complex portfolio of leave programs, manage a team, and be the go-to expert for HR, Legal, and business leaders navigating some of the most sensitive moments in an employee's career.
Core Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end administration of all leave programs — FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation coordination, short- and long-term disability, and applicable state and local leave laws.
- Ensure accurate eligibility determinations, medical certification management, intermittent leave tracking, and return-to-work coordination, including transitional or modified duty arrangements.
- Partner with internal legal counsel to review, update, and implement leave and accommodation policies in line with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop standardized processes, documentation guidelines, and best practices to support audit readiness and risk mitigation.
- Serve as the subject matter expert and advisor to HR Business Partners, managers, and employees on leave law and its interaction with PTO, disability benefits, and workplace accommodations.
- Monitor regulatory and legislative changes and assess the impact on policies and practices.
- Oversee third-party leave and disability vendor relationships, holding them to service level and compliance standards.
- Partner with HRIS and Benefits teams to maintain data integrity, reporting accuracy, and optimal system functionality.
- Analyze leave trends and metrics to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; advanced degree or HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in leave administration, compliance, or benefits — with solid hands-on knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and state leave laws.
- Prior experience leading or managing a team, strongly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local leave and accommodation regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, escalated cases with sound judgment and a compliance-first mindset.
- Excellent communicator — confident advising and influencing leaders at multiple levels of an organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in HRIS and leave management systems.
