Human Resources Director - 5 Days On-Site NYC 

We're partnering with a media company based in New York on the search for a Director of Human Resources to build out and lead its people function.

This is a broad, hands on HR leadership role that sits close to the top of the organization. You'll set the people strategy and also do the work yourself, from renewing benefits to handling a difficult employee situation personally. It's a good fit for someone who wants full ownership of HR in a fast moving, high energy environment run by bold, creative leaders.

What you'll be doing:

• Set the HR agenda for the business, covering talent, compensation, benefits, employee relations, payroll, compliance, and culture
• Work alongside senior leaders on people related decisions, from compensation benchmarking to org design and leveling
• Run the yearly benefits renewal from start to finish, dealing directly with brokers and carriers to get the business the best plans, and manage open enrollment for employees
• Handle onboarding and offboarding, and step in personally when an employee relations issue needs a senior, discreet hand
• Put real structure around performance reviews, career paths, and succession planning, and coach managers along the way
• Keep policies, the employee handbook, and day to day practices compliant with labor law across every jurisdiction the business touches
• Manage a small team, setting their priorities and helping them grow

What we're looking for:

• A decade or more in HR, at least five of those years running a team, having owned HR broadly rather than one lane of it
• Hands on experience taking a benefits renewal through negotiation with brokers and insurers, not just sitting in on the process
• Genuinely comfortable being the senior HR presence in a business full of personalities, with the discretion to match
• Either ran HR solo for a smaller organization, or helped professionalize HR inside a bigger one that hadn't built it out yet
• A track record of actually changing how things work, not just keeping the lights on

Compensation & logistics:

• Base salary: $160,000 to $170,000, plus discretionary bonus
• Location: New York, NY, five days a week in office
