We are conducting a confidential search for a Director of Human Resources on behalf of a globally recognized, high-profile entertainment and media business headquartered in New York City. This is a rare opportunity to serve as the senior people leader and make a meaningful impact on organizational performance, culture, and strategic growth.

The Opportunity:

The Director of HR will lead the full people function for the organization, reporting directly to the CFO. This individual will serve as both strategic advisor and hands-on operator — equally comfortable partnering with executive leadership on workforce strategy as they are managing benefits renewals, overseeing payroll, or navigating sensitive employee relations matters.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Partner closely with executive leadership to align HR strategy with business goals.

  • Lead high-impact initiatives including compensation benchmarking, headcount planning, and job leveling.

Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations

  • Oversee compensation structures, incentive programs, and benefits offerings.

  • Lead annual benefits renewal process, partnering directly with brokers and insurers.

Employee Relations & Culture

  • Serve as escalation point for employee relations matters; conduct investigations with discretion.

Talent Management & Development

  • Oversee recruitment strategies across corporate functions.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws.

  • Oversee wage and hour, leave administration, and policy management.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a small HR team (2 direct reports).

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking a proven HR generalist who has led the function end-to-end within a small-to-mid-sized enterprise or standalone business unit.

Must-Have Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience.

  • 5+ years leading and developing an HR team.

  • Full ownership of the HR function (not solely a specialist in one vertical).

  • Direct experience managing benefits program renewals and broker relationships.

  • Strong employee relations background with sound judgment and discretion.

  • Comfort partnering with senior executives in a fast-paced, creative, high-visibility business.
