Our client, a well-established financial institution dedicated to providing accessible, modern banking solutions, is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting operations and ensure the organization’s continued financial integrity. This individual will report to the Director of Accounting and Finance and support the department through a range of functions, including GAAP accounting, financial reporting, audit coordination, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting operations, including maintenance of the general ledger and preparation of accurate, timely financial statements

  • Ensure full compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory requirements

  • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls to protect organizational assets

  • Lead and mentor accounting staff, promoting professional development and operational excellence

  • Collaborate with senior management to set goals and align financial initiatives with strategic objectives

  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports and performance analyses for leadership and the Board

  • Serve as a key liaison for external auditors, regulatory examiners, and financial partners

  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning

  • Evaluate financial performance and identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies

  • Contribute to the organization’s mission by ensuring sound financial management and member-focused outcomes

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years’ experience managing an accounting department within a financial services organization; experience in a member-based institution preferred

  • At least five years of experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and analysis

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting (CPA required)

  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and drive results

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

  • High level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Commitment to delivering exceptional service and fostering a positive team environment

  • Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and supporting staff development
