Assistant Controller | NYC (On-site)

The Role

As the Assistant Controller, you’ll be the right hand to the VP of Accounting — leading day-to-day operations, driving revenue accuracy, and ensuring compliance across a multifamily portfolio. You’ll touch everything from financial reporting to process improvement, and your work will directly support both residents and long-term organizational growth.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee daily accounting operations for a diverse affordable housing portfolio

• Coordinate with leasing and property managers to ensure accurate ledgers, subsidy tracking, and reconciliations

• Prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders

• Lead process improvements around revenue management and accounting technology

• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting

• Assist with annual audits, tax filings, and compliance submissions

• Strengthen internal controls and accounting policies

• Troubleshoot issues proactively to ensure transactions are recorded accurately

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA a plus)

• 7–10 years of experience in property management accounting, ideally in affordable housing

• Strong understanding of affordable housing programs and compliance

• Advanced proficiency in Yardi and Excel

• A collaborative, detail-driven mindset — and the ability to lead in a fast-paced, mission-oriented environment
