The Opportunity
A well-established global private equity firm with nearly $10 billion in capital commitments is seeking its first dedicated Tax Manager. This is a highly visible, ownership-oriented role reporting directly to the CFO, the firm's sole internal tax seat.
The firm specializes in software, technology, and services investments across North America and Europe, with a track record of 260+ acquisitions. Its lean finance team operates with significant autonomy, and this role reflects that culture.
This is an ideal opportunity for a tax professional who built their foundation at a Big 4 or large regional public accounting firm working with PE fund clients, or who has operated in-house at a comparable private equity firm, and is ready to own the full tax function.
What You'll Own
Fund & Compliance
- Oversee all domestic and international tax compliance across fund entities, AIVs, holding companies, and the management company
- Manage portfolio company K-1 collection and investor K-1 issuance
- Coordinate FATCA reporting, FBARs, 1042s, and 1099s in collaboration with outside tax service providers
- Maintain tax withholding documentation for non-US investors and ensure compliance on distributions
Technical & Reporting
- Develop and maintain tax allocation waterfalls and distribution schedules
- Prepare holding company financial statements and tax allocation schedules
- Manage PTP tracking and tax basis fund allocations
- Ensure timely state and local tax payments across multiple jurisdictions
- Support non-US tax reporting with outside advisors
Advisory & Cross-Functional
- Serve as the primary internal liaison to all external tax service providers
- Work with the CFO and finance team on tax estimates and projections
- Support the broader finance function as needed in a lean team environment
What We're Looking For
Must-Haves
- 6–8 years of experience in partnership tax compliance
- Background at a Big 4 or large public accounting firm with PE fund clients, or in-house tax experience at a private equity firm of similar complexity
- Deep experience with tax allocation waterfalls and pass-through entity investments
- Exposure to non-US fund structures, foreign investments, and foreign investors (FATCA, FBAR, 1042s)
- CPA preferred
Skills & Attributes
- Highly proficient in Excel
- Self-directed with a strong ownership mentality, comfortable being the expert in the room
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Clear communicator across internal and external stakeholders
- Embraces automation and technology to drive process efficiency
- High degree of discretion with sensitive financial information
Why This Role
- Direct CFO access, not a siloed position within a large tax department
- Full ownership of the tax function from day one
- Complex, multi-entity environment spanning US and international structures
- Established firm with 20+ years of history and a strong acquisition track record
- Competitive compensation up to $240K all-in with flexibility on structure
- South Bay coastal lifestyle, one of the most desirable work locations in Los Angeles
