A growing, PE Backed health care organization is seeking a Senior Payroll Manager to lead and manage multi-state payroll operations. This role requires strong technical payroll expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding payroll matters.

 

Fluency in English and Mandarin is mandatory.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process multi-state payroll  for 1,000+ employees across hourly, salaried, W-2, and 1099 populations.
  • Manage team of 3+ who execute weekly, biweekly, and monthly payroll cycles with full accuracy and compliance.
  • Compliance and regulatory research, implementation and updates. NY Wage Parity law knowledge is preferred.
  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and review payroll reports, reconciliations, and year-end filings (W-2, 1099, etc.).
  • Serve as the primary employee-facing contact for payroll questions, issue resolution, and policy guidance.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, payroll documentation, and audit-ready records.
  • Collaborate with HR, Accounting, and Operations teams to support onboarding, offboarding, benefits, timekeeping, and payroll-related inquiries.
  • Assist with payroll system improvements, automation, and process optimization initiatives.

 

Requirements

  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is required.
  • 5+ years of payroll experience processing for 1,000+ employees, including multi-state payroll compliance and payroll tax.
  • Strong hands-on experience with W-2, 1099, hourly/salary structures, and varied pay cycles.
  • Comfort and professionalism serving as the payroll point of contact for employees.
  • Solid understanding of payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and regulatory requirements. NY Wage Parity Compliance ++.
  • Healthcare, medical services or related industries preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with ADP, Paychex, or similar payroll systems preferred.
  • High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality.
