We are seeking an accomplished Director of Technical Accounting to join a dynamic and high-growth, publicly-traded energy sector organization. This individual will lead the technical accounting function in a global corporation and serve as a key advisor on complex transactions, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SEC requirements. The Director will play a critical role in shaping accounting policies, implementing new standards, and supporting executive leadership with strategic financial insights.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the evaluation and documentation of complex transactions, including leases, financing arrangements, purchase and sales contracts, derivatives, capitalizations, impairments, and business combinations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with external auditors on technical accounting matters, ensuring alignment and timely resolution of issues.
- Oversee the adoption and implementation of new accounting standards, providing technical guidance and training across the organization.
- Develop, update, and communicate accounting policies, ensuring consistency and compliance across domestic and international entities.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to assess accounting and financial reporting implications of strategic business decisions.
- Lead accounting efforts related to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and impairments, including coordination with valuation specialists and internal stakeholders.
- Drive process improvements in technical accounting documentation, modeling of fair value measurements, and policy development.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing technical accounting team, building organizational expertise and capability.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting; CPA required.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant exposure to technical accounting, US GAAP, and SEC reporting.
- Must have recent or current experience with publicly traded companies.
- Background in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and/or relevant industry leadership experience. Will consider professionals coming directly from public accounting or advisory.
- Deep expertise in lease accounting (ASC 842), revenue recognition (ASC 606), debt accounting, fixed assets, and business combinations.
- Proven ability to research and communicate complex accounting issues in a clear and actionable manner.
- Track record of successfully leading technical accounting projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Workiva experience a plus.
- Must be ok with being on site 5 days/week.
