Our NYC client is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounts Receivable / Staff Accountant to support our growing retail/apparel business. This role will be responsible for managing accounts receivable functions while also supporting general accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial records, timely collections, and compliance with accounting standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both transactional accounting and broader financial responsibilities in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable

  • Manage full-cycle accounts receivable, including invoicing, cash application, credit memos, and collections

  • Reconcile customer accounts and investigate discrepancies

  • Monitor aging reports and proactively follow up on outstanding balances

  • Coordinate with sales, customer service, and logistics teams to resolve billing issues

  • Assist with credit reviews and customer account setup

Staff Accounting

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes

  • Prepare and post journal entries and account reconciliations

  • Support general ledger maintenance and financial reporting

  • Assist with sales tax reporting and compliance (multi-state experience a plus)

  • Support audits and provide documentation as needed

Retail/Apparel Support

  • Reconcile wholesale, e-commerce, and retail sales activity

  • Assist with inventory-related accounting and cost tracking

  • Support revenue recognition for wholesale and direct-to-consumer channels

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 2–4 years of accounting or accounts receivable experience

  • Experience in retail, apparel, consumer goods, or e-commerce preferred

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and AR best practices

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel

  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively
